Background & aim: Patients with acute cardiac problems experience stress and anxiety due to being in the cardiac care unit environment and concerns about their health and future, as well as not having a companion, which also affects their physiological indicators. Music therapy, due to its calming and non-invasive nature, can help address these issues along with other nursing care. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the effect of music therapy on stress, anxiety, and physiological indicators of patients in the cardiac care unit of Montazeri Hospital, Najafabad, in 1403. Methods:The present study is a semi-experimental two-group before and after method. 40 patients hospitalized in the cardiac care unit of Montazeri Hospital in Najafabad, who were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, were randomly assigned to two intervention and control groups. The intervention group listened to music for 15 minutes each day for three consecutive days. Data collection tools included demographic questionnaires, Spielberger Anxiety, Cohen's Perceived Stress, and a researcher-made checklist of physiological indicators, which were completed before and after the study. The physiological indicators of all study participants were measured before the intervention and 10 minutes after the intervention. Results:The mean anxiety score in the intervention and control groups before the study was 2.31 ± 0.34 and 2.40 ± 0.37, respectively, which was not significantly different (P = 0.46). But after the study, it reached 1.23 ± 0.12 and 2.44 ± 0.34, which was significantly different in the intervention group compared to before (P = 0.04). The mean stress score in the intervention and control groups before the study was 2.25 ± 0.53 and 2.28 ± 0.61, respectively, which was not significantly different (P = 0.84). But after the study, it reached 1.68 ± 0.24 and 2.31 ± 0.59, which was significantly different in the intervention group compared to before (P<0.001). Also, this mean difference between the intervention and control groups was also significant (P<0.001). There was no significant difference in the changes in physiological indices before the study in the two groups (P<0.05). But after the intervention, all indicators were significant in the intervention group at all times compared to before (P<0.001). This difference was also significant in the control group (P<0.001). Conclusion:Music therapy in patients hospitalized in the cardiac care unit can be used as an effective complementary intervention in reducing anxiety, stress, and regulating some physiological indicators.
