Abstract:   (19 Views)
Background & aim: Readmission of kidney transplant patients is one of the major challenges facing health systems, as it is associated with increased healthcare costs and reduced quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting readmission of kidney transplant patients during 2023–2024 at Farhikhtegan Hospital.
Methods: This sequential mixed-methods study was conducted in two phases. In the qualitative phase, a scoping review was conducted to identify influencing factors, based on which an initial conceptual model was developed. In the quantitative phase, a survey-analytical study was carried out using convenience sampling among 150 kidney transplant patients. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire derived from the literature. Face and content validity were confirmed by experts, and reliability was verified by a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.84.
Results: The findings showed that four categories of factors-medical, individual, socioeconomic, and psychological- significantly influenced patient readmission. Medical factors had the greatest impact, with a path coefficient of 0.663. Individual (0.372), socioeconomic (0.261), and psychological (0.170) factors also had significant effects.
Conclusion: The results emphasize the need for a multilevel and multifactorial approach to reduce readmission rates among kidney transplant patients. In addition to medical care, attention to   psychological, and social aspects can contribute to improved clinical outcomes and reduced healthcare system costs.
