Knowing the importance of the role of nurses in the participation of family caregivers in the matter of care is important in achieving the goals of family-centered care. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the nurses&#39; understanding of their role regarding the active participation of family caregivers in the care of patients hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).</span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="unicode-bidi:embed"><span style="font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Methods:</span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt"> In this cross-sectional study in 2024, 150 nurses working in ICUs affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences were selected using proportional stratified sampling. In order to collect information, two questionnaires were used, including demographic information and a questionnaire on the nurses&#39; understanding of their role towards family caregivers.</span></span></span></span><br> <span style="font-size:12pt"><span style="unicode-bidi:embed"><span style="font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt">Results: </span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt">The nurses participating in the research had an average age of 34.6&plusmn;7.88, and most of them were female (77.3%) and 62% were married. The average score of nurses&#39; understanding of their role was 40.79 &plusmn; 6.87 (moderate understanding).
