abstract ={Aims: Aspiration of stomach contents is a serious side effect in patients with a narrow tube which can be prevented otherwise may lead to death. There have been disputes over the safest feeding method. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the chance of occurrence of respiratory aspiration in two tube feeding methods of intermittent bolus and intermittent drip bag. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, 72 patients in ICU and trauma ward who were fed through tube, investigating contextual variables and using gradual method, were divided into two groups of intermittent bolus and intermittent drip bag method and both groups were independently fed for 3 days. After that, both groups were surveyed and compared based on the level of aspiration occurrence. To collect the data, personal information, nutrition, and respiration form as well as form of information about the two feeding methods in the studied units were utilized. The studied units were selected among Training and Treatment Centers in Rasht in 2010. To analyze the data, descriptive and inferential statistics and SPSS16 software were used. Results: The respiratory aspiration occurrence level in intermittent bolus tube feeding methods was 5.6% whereas this amount in intermittent drip bag method was zero. Fisher exact test revealed that there was no significant relationship between these two groups (p=0.47). Conclusion: As there was no significant relationship in respiratory aspiration between the two groups, it concluded that intermittent bolus method can still be mentioned in books as a standard method which can decrease the risk of aspiration if it is used properly.},

title = {The effect of prayer on mental health of hemodialysis patients},
abstract ={Aims: Hemodialysis brings about difficulties in individuals’ mental health by causing disorder in the function and quality of life. Asking for religious help and prayer play a vital role in sickness acceptance and it causes positive treatment motivation through decreasing mental disorders. Among the important factors which lead to diseases, psychological problems as well as physical and social complications, one can mention to absurdity and uselessness as well as mental instability which is resulted from lack of spiritual dimension in peoples’ life. The present research aimed to review the effect of prayer on mental health of hemodialysis patients referring to Imam Reza Hospital of Amol City in 2009. Methods: This experimental study was conducted on 88 people under hemodialysis treatment (44 people as test group and 44 people as control group). The survey was done in Solomon desian. “Tavassol Prayer” was played periodically for the test group for 10 weeks in the mornings for 20 minutes. Then, mental health of both groups was evaluated by the spiritual health standard questionnaire of Palutzian & Ellison. The results were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics after entering data into statistical Software SPSS16. Results: The findings showed mental health for the test group was 103±3 as a high level and for the control group as 93±10 in an intermediate level. Two ways ANOVA test showed a significant correlation between mental health of the test and control groups both in pretest and posttest (p<; 0.01). In addition, this test also showed a significant correlation between the two groups who had only posttest (p<; 0.01). Conclusion: According to the results, it can be concluded that prayer is a suitable method to adapt with the disease. Because, not only it mitigates stress, but also, it improves health spirituality. Since, life approach of these patients is built on spirituality, it is necessary for physicians and nurses to know the key role of ideological beliefs in the patients’ life. Therefore, it is hoped that with the serious cooperation among the health team members in following the religious rituals, which are known as religious care today, we may see the effect of these cares and creation of peace feeling as well as rapid recovery in health condition of these patients.},

title = {How to Improve Nurses Tendency toward Employing Closed Suction Method?},
abstract ={Goals: Tracheal suction is a method to clean the airway from discharge. This method is used for patients with reduced level of consciousness and respiratory muscle weakness who are not able to cough and discharge their secretions. There exist two suction systems: open suction system [OSS) and closed suction system [CSS). This study aims to improve application of closed suction in intensive care unit. Methods: This study is an action research. 60 ICU nurses were selected through convenience sampling, 30 of whom were chosen by random sampling. The required data was gathered by the help of observation, interviews and the standard American Association of C ritical Care Nurses [AACN) questionnaires. The following steps were exactly taken in the present study: precise statement of the problem, gathering information, planning and goal setting, implementation, and evaluation. In the present study, using the questionnaire and interview, problems associated with closed suction were prioritized and solutions were found out through silent brain storming and participation of nursing staff. Affordable solutions were eventually taken. Results: The prevalence of preference for using closed suction before the study was 10.5% and 66.7% afterwards. The frequency of using the open suction method, according to the connectedness of closed suction to patients, was 60% before the intervention and 57.1% after that. No significant difference was observed between the mean score of suction before and after the intervention [p>0.05). Conclusion: Action research is a suitable way to change and improve nurses’ performance, since in this method, taking the advantage of the staff’s comments and involving them in the study makes it plausible to bring about changes faster. Additionally, the made decisions would be more stable and reliable among the nursing staff.},

abstract ={Aims : Although hemodialysis has an important role in prolonging the life expectancy of patients with chronic renal failure, the patients are facing further complications. Pain during insertion of vascular needles is the most high stress part of a hemodialysis treatment, so it is important to find ways to reduce pain in these patients. This study was conducted to determine the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation ( TENS) on the pain intensity when the needles are inserted into vascular access for hemodialysis. Methods: A semi-experimental and double blind study was performed on 30 patients in hemodialysis ward of Semnan Fatemieh hospital. In this study, pain intensity during insertion of hemodialysis vascular needles was measured by a numerical pain scale in a one group by using TENS and TENS placebo. The pair T test was used to determine pain intensity mean difference in two conditions. Results: Overall, the results showed that the mean pain intensity was 3.3±2.13 and 3.56±2.16 in two conditions using TENS and TENS placebo, respectively. However, no significant difference was found between the mean pain intensity in two conditions statistically by using pair T test (p=0/55). 13/2 ± 3/3 Conclusion: Results showed that it cannot say, TENS is effective in reducing pain during insertion of vascular needles. The reason for this finding may be related to neuropathy and skin changes present at the insertion site of hemodialysis needles. It is recommended that nurses investigate the other methods for reducing pain in these patients.},

title = {Related factors of Body posture Ergonomic in intensive care units nurses during Work},
abstract ={Aim: Observing ergonomic principles during taking care of the patients by the nurses of ICU units can prevent many musculoskeletal damages. Regarding this, diagnosis of special related factors of every area can make it possible to have preventive effective program. The aim of this study was determining related factors of nurses’ Body posture Ergonomic during position changing of patients in intensive care units. Methods: In this analytic cross-sectional study all the nurses with determined characteristics of the study (n=91) had been assessed in intensive units of educational -therapeutic centers of Rasht in 2010 by census method and a 3-part tool including questionnaire of demographic factors, Knowledge and environmental factors that effect on Ergonomics during position changing. Data were collected by self-report method and observation and have been analyzed by inferential tests under SPSS software. Results: The findings showed that almost half of nurses had moderate knowledge about ergonomics science (49/4%) and did position changing under desirable environmental condition (45/1%). According to GEE model, single samples with normal BMI and less work experience in ICU (p<; 0, 0001) among demographic factors, lack of adjustability of beds “parts “and “height” in work environment and poor knowledge were related to undesirable ergonomic condition. Conclusion: The findings highlight necessitation of considering proper planning for controlling preventive related factors of ergonomic in ICU units during patients’ position changing such as knowledge deficit, using present technologies and maintaining appropriate BMI},

title = {Sexual function of women with Chronic Renal Failure Undergoing Hemodialysis and factors related to it},
abstract ={Aims : One of the important aspects of life quality is sexual function. Chronic renal failure and its treatments have effect on sexual function. The aim of this study was to investigate sexual function of women with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis and factors related to it. Methods : In this cross sectional study, one hundred women with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis at four dialysis units in Karaj were interviewed in 2011 and also their medical records were investigated. Sampling method was census sampling. The instruments used included: demographic data form, the (CES-D) center of epidemiologic studies of depression scale and Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and World Health Organization life quality (WHOQOL- BREF) questionnaire. Data was analyzed by SPSS software and using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and coefficient Pearson correlation. Results : The findings indicated that mean score of female sexual function index was 13.22 ± 8.58 (1.2-36 range) and 100% of women had score of female sexual function index lower than 28. Sexual desire decrease, 62% sexual arousal decrease, 52% vaginal lubrication decrease, 60% failure to orgasm, 33% sexual dissatisfaction and 54% dyspareunia were experienced. There were significant inverse correlation between score of female sexual function index undergoing hemodialysis with creatinine level (p=0.016), depression (p=0.016) and positive correlation with hemoglobin level (p=0.001) and total score of life quality (p=0.006). The presence of diabetes showed significant relationship with score of female sexual function (p=0.049). Conclusion : with regard to sexual dysfunction prevalence among women with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis and negative impact on life quality, it seems that in order to provide holistic nursing care, assessment and planning for treating it, is necessary.},

title = {Assessment and comparison of Emotional Intelligence of Nurses in General and Intensive Care Units},
abstract ={Objective: Professional nursing is recognised for having high working anxiety levels due to continuous interaction with patients, their family and colleagues in a high stress working environment. As a compilation of non cognitive skills and abilities, emotional intelligent could be helpful in controlling stress and increasing the individual’s productivity at work. Intensive Care Units’ employees experience higher stress levels as compared to General Units’. This study was conducted with the aim of comparing the emotional intelligence in general and Intensive Care Units. Methods: This descriptive sectional analytic study was conducted on 212 participants of who were randomly selected from the individuals employed in the specialized and General Units of selected military hospitals of the city of Tehran, in 2011. In order to assess the emotional intelligence, Bradberi and Greaves (2005) Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire including 28 questions and 5 levels was used. The data obtained from this study was analysed using SPSS 17. software application’s descriptive analysis and statistical test. Findings: The average emotional intelligence score for nurses 79.4 (±7.3) was calculated. The average relative frequency of emotional intelligence scores were categorized in five levels Excellent (10.4%), Good (38.2%), Required Assistance (42.5%), Requires Work (8.5%) and Warning (0.5%). The highest frequency of emotional intelligence among the nurses employed in General Units was observed in Good level (46.1%). The highest frequency of the level of emotional intelligence among the nurses employed in Intensive Care Units was observed in Requires Assistance level (47.2%). This difference between general and Intensive Care Units was statistically significant (p = 0.02).},

title = {Comparison of intensive care units Structural Standards},
abstract ={Abstract Aims a : Intensive care units are one of the most sensitive parts of each hospital codification of appropriate structural standards and its measurement improve the quality of services in those units. So this study had been done with the aim of “determining structural conditions of intensive care units” Methods : : This cross-sectional study had been designed for measuring structural standards of intensive care units in three areas of human force physical conditions and medical equipment in educational hospitals of Hamadan and comparing it with the last existing standards according to international guidelines and principles and accreditation standards of Iranian hospitals and it had been performed from April to September of 2011. Data were collected via completing assessing forms with direct observance of the researcher and they had been analyzed by using statistical tests, ANOVAs (variance analysis) and Spearman in SPSS (17) software. Results : All the three units of the study achieved less than 50% score of structural standards among the total 843 score that Besat intensive care unit 48% ( the mean score 406) ، Ghaem intensive care unit 45% ( the mean score 376 ) and Milad intensive care unit had 41% ( the mean score 346 ) of the standards. The most percent of the standard score was related to human force with (%58) and the least one was related to physical conditions and facilities with (%38). Conclusion : In intensive care units of the study, achieved scores in structural domination was less than appropriate standard level. Therefore it had been suggested that the executives consider achieving global standards specially promotion of structural standards that is guarantor of quality promotion and optimization performance of intensive care units.},
