title = {Effect of lavender aromatherapy on hemodynamic indices among patients with acute coronary syndrome: a randomized clinical trial},
abstract ={Aims : Patients who are hospitalized in coronary care unit are at risk for hemodynamic instability secondary to anxiety and stress. Aromatherapy may have positive effects on hemodynamic status and can help reduce blood pressure and heart rate. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lavender aromatherapy on hemodynamic indices among patients with acute coronary syndrome. Methods : This single-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted on patients who had been hospitalized in the coronary care unit of Namazi hospital, Shiraz, Iran, in 2013. A sample of 110 patients with acute coronary syndrome was recruited. Patients were randomly allocated to either the experimental or the placebo groups. Patients in the experimental and placebo groups were respectively treated with lavender essence and almond oil drop aromas. Participants’ systolic and diastolic blood pressures as well as heart rate were measured seven times—before, during, and after the study intervention. For analyzing the data, statistical tests such as Chi-square, t test, and repeated measures analysis of variance were performed by using the SPSS16. Results : There was a downward trend of systolic and diastolic blood pressures and heart rate changes across the seven measurement time-points in both groups. However, there was no significant difference between the study groups regarding systolic blood pressure (P value = 0.586), diastolic blood pressure (P value = 0.557) and heart rate (P value = 0.846). Conclusion s: Given its positive effects on hemodynamic indices, aromatherapy can be used as an effective alternative therapy.},

title = {The effect of nature-based sound therapy on shortening length of mechanical ventilation in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery patients during the weaning from mechanical ventilation},
abstract ={Aims : Weaning from mechanical ventilation is a frequent nursing activity in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Nature-based sound as a non-pharmacological method was effective in alleviating anxiety and agitation in patients undergoing mechanical ventilation. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of nature-based sound on shortening length of weaning from mechanical ventilation time in patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) surgery. Methods : This is a quasi-experimental study in which 120 patients undergoing CABG surgery had participated. These patients were undergoing weaning from mechanical ventilator they were randomly divided into two intervention and control groups of 60 subjects. The study was done in 2013. The intervention group listened to nature-based sounds through headphones, immediately after the first trigger, they listened to the sound at 20 min intervals until extubation. Data was collected until twenty three minutes after extubation too. Patients of the control group had headphones with no sound. Data collection tools included a demographic- medical questionnaire and a researcher-made data recording sheet. Data analysis was done through descriptive and inferential statistical methods including independent t-test, chi-square and Fishers exact test by using SPSS 16 software. Results : Findings showed that the intervention group had significantly lower length of mechanical ventilation time than the control group (P<; 0.001). Conclusions : The results showed that nature-based sound as a non-pharmacological treatment can be effective in shortening length of weaning from mechanical ventilation time and it can be helpful in this process. Since it’s a safe, easy and inexpensive method and it has no complications, it can be used besides other non-pharmacological methods in shortening duration of patients’ weaning from mechanical ventilation in ICU.},

title = {Examining the effect of continuous care model on adherence to dietary regimen among patients receiving hemodialysis},
abstract ={Aim s: Adherence to dietary regimens is essential to the success of hemodialysis whose absence is associated with significant health problems and complications for patients receiving hemodialysis. Besides educations, hemodialysis patients need a continuous care plan that improves their adherence knowledge, practice, and attitude. This study aimed at examining the effect of Continuous Care Model on hemodialysis patients’ dietary adherence. Methods : This randomized controlled trial was conducted on 98 patients who received hemodialysis in Baqiyatallah and Chamran hospitals, Tehran, Iran, in 2013. Subjects were recruited by using the purposive sampling technique and were randomly allocated to either the treatment or the control groups. Written and verbal educational materials about hemodialysis and dietary adherence were provided to patients in the treatment group. Then, the four-step continuous care plan was implemented. The steps included orientation, sensitization, control, and evaluation. Study participants were invited to fill the Dietary Adherence Questionnaire at four time points including before the intervention (T1) as well as one, two, and three months afterward (T2–T4). The Chi-square and the repeated measures analysis of variance test were performed by using the SPSS v. 18.0. Results : Most participants had poor dietary adherence. The Continuous Care Model significantly improved their dietary adherence scores—from 148.95±6.04 (T1) to 156.25±4.85 (T2), 177.08±3.63 (T3), and 184.37±3.38 (T4). There was a significant relationship between Continuous Care Model and dietary adherence (P value = 0.0001). Conclusion s: Educations and counseling services that are provided through the Continuous Care Model can improve hemodialysis patients’ dietary adherence. Using this model for enhancing hemodialysis patients’ dietary adherence and preventing non-adherence-related complications is recommended.},

title = {Evaluation of violence of patients and their families against emergency nurses of Imam Reza Central Hospital in Mashhad},
abstract ={Aims: Patients and their families’ violence is mostly among the most dangerous occupational hazards, which has some consequences for the medical staff and influences quality of patients’ care and satisfaction directly or indirectly. The present study is done with the aim of determining the level of patients and their families’ violence against nurses. Methods: This cross - sectional study was performed through census method on 68 nursing staff working in Central Emergency of Imam Reza hospital in Mashhad in 2012. Data collection tools included a standard questionnaire designed by the collaboration of International Labor Organization, World Health Organization, International Society of Nurses and International Association of Public Service the questionnaire has been used after its adjustment with the social and environmental criteria. Data analysis was done through SPSS17 software and by using descriptive statistics and Pearson and Spearman correlation test. Results : All the nurses were exposed to verbal violence at least once during the last year (14.7 percent once, 16.2 percent always and 69.1 percent sometimes) and 22.1 percent of them had experienced physical violence during the last year. The most common cause of violence against nurses was patients relatives and most of the nurses have not taken any action against them. More than half of the nurses stated that they do not report the incident since they think it’s useless to report or talk about it they also stated that there was no specific action taken by the superior for identifying the cause of violence in the case of their reporting. In addition tracking the reported violence has most often been unsatisfactory. Conclusions: Despite high prevalence of violence against nurses of emergency departments, lack of reporting mechanisms and tracking violence and nurses’ avoidance of reporting violence, hidden aspects of this phenomenon are more than the obvious ones. Since most of the people working in emergency departments have reported that violence can’t be prevented, it is necessary to prevent destructive effects of this phenomenon influencing the quality of emergency cares by developing educational programs aimed at empowering nurses in managing violent incidents.},

title = {The role of attachment styles in the prediction of posttraumatic stress disorder in emergency nurses},
abstract ={Aims: Evidences indicated that attachment styles are important in people’s adjustment with stressful situations. Therefore, this study has been carried out to assess the role of attachment styles in the prediction of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in emergency nurses. Methods: It was a descriptive-correlational study. The statistical population of this study was all the emergency nurses of Uroumieh hospitals in 2010. 100 people of the population were selected randomly for this study. All the participants were tested individually by Mississippi PTSD scale and attachment styles questionnaire at their work place. Data analysis was done by multivariate ANOVA tests and multiple regression analysis and SPSS17 software. Results: According to PTSD scale, twenty participants of the study were suffering from PTSD. Comparing their attachment styles with the healthy group (the group without PTSD) it was shown that the group with PTSD took higher scores in terms of fearful and dismissive attachment styles in compare with healthy group (without PTSD). The results of multi-regression analysis showed that 10 percent of the total variance of individuals in PTSD scale was explained by attachment styles. Conclusions: Attachment styles are important in determining susceptibility of hospital emergency nurses to PTSD},

abstract ={Aims: Despite the importance of patient satisfaction as an indicator of quality, updated information is not available on the satisfaction of parents of infants hospitalized in neonatal intensive care. The aim of this study was “to determine the degree of satisfaction of parents of infants hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)”. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, parents of 300 infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit participated with cluster sampling of twelve elected government hospital in Tehran in 2012. Demographic data and data on parental satisfaction using valid and reliable researcher made questionnaire in three domains of welfare, medical and nursing services was measured with a likert scale ranged from 0-100. Data using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson chi-square) were analyzed in SPSS19 software. Results : The mean satisfaction about the nursing care 63.6±14.5, medical care 54.05±11.9, welfare services 42.03±9.02 and the overall satisfaction 63.04±31.5. A significant relationship was observed between variables hospitals (p=0.0001), age (p=0.014), income (p=0.007), history of hospitalization (p=0.0001) and length of hospitalization (p=0.015) between total satisfaction. Conclusions : The relatively high level of parental satisfaction with the three domains of welfare, medical and nursing care services, can be a desirable indicator of the quality of services provided, and the it is necessary for more parental satisfy , the medical team has more cooperation and assistance together. Doctors and nurses also need to establish closer communication and more intimate with parents. To be considered special amenities and facilities to meet the other family members with newborns.},

title = {Examining the impact of liaison nurse role on patients’ clinical outcomes after intensive care unit discharge: a clinical trial},
abstract ={Aims : The liaison nurse role has been defined in many countries for improving the quality of nursing care delivery to patients who are transferred from intensive care units to general medical-surgical wards. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of ICU liaison nurse role on patients’ clinical outcomes after being discharged from intensive care unit. Methods : In this two-group controlled clinical trial, a convenience sample of 80 patients was drawn in 2014 from selected military hospitals located in Tehran. Patients were randomly allocated to either the control (40 patients) or the experimental groups (40 patients). After being transferred from intensive care unit to general wards, patients in the experimental group received care from a liaison nurse. A data sheet was used for collecting the study data. The validity of the sheet was confirmed by a panel of ten nursing faculties. The Gutmann coefficient of the scale was 0.868 which confirmed the acceptable reliability of the sheet. Study data were analyzed by using the SPSS19 and by conducting the Chi-square and independent-samples t tests. Results : Hemodynamic and laboratory parameters in the experimental group were not significantly different from the control group (p value > 0.05). Conclusions : Conducting further studies for evaluating different aspects of liaison nurse role is recommended},
